Disability pride

Designing a World for Everyone

Disability Pride is a concept which Towards Belonging Ltd celebrates every day. This is often celebrated across the world throughout the month of July, but eradicating the stigma of disability and promoting the belief that disability is a natural part of human diversity is something which needs to be understood across all cultures, every day of the year. Having an improved understanding of the social model of disability and why accessible and inclusive environments are so important can improve workplace practices, team working and fundamentally product and service popularity.

Towards Belonging Ltd and most often the managing director Katy Deacon, give disability pride presentations throughout the year. It is very important to discuss disability as part of improving workplace culture and making a break from the traditional cultures which consider disabilities as shameful conditions, often hidden away from public awareness and not considered in Engineering design.

As the UK is an ever-ageing country with only 11% of people being born with a disability but almost 60% of people having a disability by the time they are 80 (Scope disability statistics), we welcome opportunities to discuss improved team diversity and to demonstrate that disabled people can and do make positive contributions to society every day.
